The Forum Lifecycle And Those Who Monitor Them

Tags: , , , ,

Online forums thrive on the idea of a free exchange of thought. If your business provides a forum you are making it possible for people around the globe to share their ideas and perspectives.

Because a single perspective may be at odds with another divergent idea the employment of one or more moderators is vital. This does not mean that the business owner must moderate it, but they can either hire a freelance moderator or they can accept a volunteer moderator from their membership list.

Forums can and occasionally do get heated with two or more individuals posting material that may be considered inflammatory or simply designed to ruffle feathers. This is where the moderator comes in.

Rules should be posted and pinned (stickied) to the top of your forum categories. These rules should be prominent with strong encouragement to read and abide by them. Failure to follow the guidelines could result in either the suspension or banning of a user in violation of the rules.

Obviously this action is taken as a last resort, but sometimes it is very difficult to rein certain forum members in.

The moderator should use both caution and wisdom in making a decision about the status of a forum member who violates the rules.

Posts that attack a person should be dealt with quickly and, in some cases, should be removed.

Not everyone who signs up for your forum will stay indefinitely. You may even have some members who will sign up look around and never post. Other member can best be described as lurkers. These members are content to read other posts, but rarely provide their own feedback. This may be a matter of comfort or a simple desire to learn what they can without becoming overly involved in a community such as a forum.

The third group of members will likely be the smallest percentage of participants. These members will be active and will spend a significant amount of time with the forum and will respond when others have a question or comment. It is typically from this small pool that you may find your volunteer moderators.

You should also know there is a certain lifecycle to forums. You may find a burst of participation from a core group of members that can last several months, but little by little these cyber veterans drop by less and less while new recruits take their place. An established forum will change dynamics multiple times over its existence. This is normal and is to be expected. You may also find there may be a need to replace your moderators from time to time especially if they are volunteer. Their interest may decrease over time or their circumstances might change – always make it easy for them to pursue a new life dynamic by leaving them in the driver’s seat when it comes to the length of their involvement.

Don’t spend too much time lamenting the changing dynamic because it means you are gaining new interest in your forum and, by proxy, your products or services.

Forums provide an excellent opportunity to reach out to consumers, but it’s always in a state of flux. Allow your forum to roll with the punches.

Forum Marketing Network Businesses for the Beginner

Tags: , , , ,

The numbers of fledgling marketers who take to forum marketing network businesses are legion! Unfortunately, so are also the numbers of marketers who will return to the same forum the next day and when attempting to log in will find out that their forum persona was deleted and accesses as well as posting privileges have been summarily denied. What happened?

Generally speaking, the odds are good that your forum posts were considered spam by enough of the other players that an administrator was contacted who eventually took action and banned you from the network. The fine line that exists between forum marketing network business and spamming is often a heated topic of discussion on said forums themselves and there is no hard and fast answer.

Yet in an effort to make it easier for the newbie, forum marketing network businesses for the beginner is a three step process.

1. First and foremost, you need to decide which angle you want to market. In other words, are you looking for down line candidates or for product customers? In the same vein, do you want to find individuals who not only want to buy your product but then also turn around and sell it? Each and every angle requires you to use a different approach. In other words, each and every angle requires you to write your forum posts with great care and expertise – perhaps this is one of the reasons that this is a task most commonly outsourced to an experienced freelance writer.

2. Secondly, you need to create your forum persona. Stay away from obvious monikers that will have other forum participants roll their eyes and instantly steal your credibility. Examples include “make money losing weight” or “wealthy marketer.” Instead, opt for a persona with a respectable name or handle, if you do not want to use your real name. Next, you need to create a profile. This is a great opportunity to mention your business and also your role in it, but do not turn the forum profile section into a cut and paste job from the company website. There is not a persona live who will read through a lengthy promotional profile. Last but not least, if the forum permits, create a signature. This could include a link to your website, but it will be more effective if it includes a link to a personal blog or even online newsletter with a gripping teaser. Something like “how a candy bar at three in the morning cost me two hours of sleep and $10” is an example of a headline that will lead to click through traffic simply because it seems to implausible and everyone wants to know more about the story. Do not disappoint the website visitor but instead deliver a gripping tale or blog entry so when you change your signature to feature the next article, those who know you will come and look.

3. Last but not least, do not post lengthy wellness product reviews in a gardening forum. Similarly, do not post an explanation on how to lose weight in a forum dedicated to childhood diseases and autism. Two cardinal sins are incorporated in this approach: a lengthy posting and an inappropriate venue. Only post in forums that are somehow related to your business. Secondly, keep the posts short and simple, especially when you discuss your product.

When they attempt to log in they find out that their forum persona and access was deleted, as well as posting privileges denied. What happened? All you wanted to do was to market your home computer business idea, or get help for it. What could you have done so wrong? Well, let’s explore correct procedure to marketing in a forum.

Generally speaking, the odds are good that your forum posts were considered spam by enough of the other players that an administrator was contacted, who eventually took action and banned you from the network. Examples include, “make money losing weight”, or “get wealthy online” from names like, “wealthymarketer” or “thecashcow”. Instead, opt for a persona with a respectable name or handle. If you do not want to use your real name, decide on a name like BusinessBob, or TexasShirley. Next, you need to create a profile. This is a great opportunity to mention your business and also your role in it, but do not turn the forum profile section into a cut and paste job from the company website. There is not a person alive who will read through a lengthy promotional profile. Last but not least, if the forum permits, create a signature. Do not just reply to a topic with the message….”I agree with that.” Make sure any of your messages have content in them.

So, go to forums and market your home computer business idea, product or any other idea you are trying to sell. Just make sure your messages contain the three things above and you will be on your way to more customers, more links to your site, and more friends on the internet.

The Forum Romanum in Rome

Tags: , ,

Forum Romanum is one of the biggest and most extraordinary archeological sites the world has seen and it is located in a valley between Palatine Hill and Capitoline Hill. The forum is composed of a dozen temples, arches and other structures.

Under construction for centuries

Forum Romanum was under construction for centuries but by the 7th century BC it was a major part of roman culture. It grew into final form under Octavian, son of Julius Caesar in the decades around the beginning of the first millennium.

The forum is rightly called Forum Magnum, the great forum, but now-a-days everybody call it Forum Romanum. Built on drained march land, the forum was a focal point for trade, administration and social interaction for the inhibitans and rulers of Rome.

A great restoration effect

When the Roman Empire collapsed in the early part of the fifth century AD many of the structures in Forum Romanum broke down into ruin. Parts of the forum was used, tragically, grazing cattle in the middle ages. Under the Renaissaance it was rediscovered. A long restoration effort began in the Age of Reason at the beginning of the 18th century and continues to this day. Because of this great effort a little of the glory of Rome can still be seen when visiting Forum Romanum.

The long restoration effort has relined its paved streets, picked away the debris of centuries and opened the forum to the public. This has been made possible mainly due to archelogists. Forum Romanum is way to big to be seen in one single day but if you can’t stay there for more than one day, dont’t worry, one day is enough to impress any visitor and give them a clue about the glory of Rome.

The great architecture demonstrate the vision made real by the Roman emperors and their architects

The Temple of Venus and Roma is just one example of the massive scale at which the Romans executed their public projects. A huge temple designed and built by the Emperor Hadrian, it sits atop a plateau facing the Colosseum.

The Temple of Concord is equally impressive. Dedicated to peace, it was completed in 367 BC on the western end of the Forum. Once a repository of statues made of gold and silver, it remains a shining reminder of what the builders of Rome could accomplish.

Of course, this is just a few of the temples in Rome, there are many more. Here is a small list;

* Temple of Saturn, Castor and Pollux
* Temple of Castor and Pollux
* Temple of Vespasian

There are several others, but there are many structures besides the temples as well.

Arches, invented and perfected by the Romans and not improved on for a thousand years, line many of the walkways. Two great examples are;

* The arch of Titus
* The arch of of Septimus Severus

Endless creativity

The Rostra, from which politicians made speeches, is still in evidence. Standing beneath it one can easily be transported back to a time in many ways very similar to our own. The Lapis Niger, or Black Stone, is a shrine that shows another aspect of the endless creativity of the builders. The Via Sacra, a shrine connected to it, is yet another.

A visit to Forum Romanum is a must when visiting Rome. It is not possible to visit Rome and not spend a day or two in this extraordinary place. When you visit you will be taken back in time and really feel the glory of the Roman Empire.

Free Forum Hosting Helps Like Minds Connect

Tags: , , , , , ,

Many companies and individuals use the internet as a community of like-minded individuals to share thoughts and ideas and there are many different free forum hosting sites that provide this capability. While some businesses may require a bit more versatility with their forums, the availability of free forum hosting makes this unique method of communication available to nearly everyone.

Many of the free forum hosting sites allow users to determine the style and layout of their individual sites as well as link to them from their business or personal websites. For example, families can use the free forum hosting in conjunction with their personal web hosting site to allow all members of the family to post information about family events. Birthday party pictures and other life-changing events can be shared with everyone, regardless of where they live as all they need is access to the internet to view the information.

Information sharing is also available with many of the free forum hosting sites, allowing consumers to share their delight as well as dismay with how certain companies conduct business. Owners of these forums should retain the right to view and delete certain items on their free forum hosting sites to prevent them from being used for illegal or immoral purposes. While some laws may indicate that information posted on forums are not the responsibility of the site owner, keeping it clean and relevant to the site can help boost business acceptance.

Forums Makes Customer Contact Easier

Numerous businesses allow customers to access their forums and free forum hosting gives all companies, regardless of their size, the opportunity to offer this idea and information sharing without a lot of effort. Experienced users may opt for a more complicated site, but most of the free forum hosting companies help even the novice forum host get their site up and running quickly.

Typically, to begin using free forum hosting registration will be required with only the bare information requested to help keep tabs on the people establishing a forum. Sharing of ideas can also be used by companies when they have people spread across the country or around the globe and a moderator can help pull all the information together.

In today’s business climate, the need to control costs is a concern to every business owner and a free forum hosting site can help do just that. Businesses can offer this service on their website and glean the input from their visitors to help them better meet the needs of the consumer.

Real Estate Investment Forum

Real Estate Investment Forum

Whether you are new to the real estate market or an old hand, there are various issues, where you would appreciate some help, whenever you find yourself stuck with a particular problem. A real estate investment forum could provide you with solutions, which could have otherwise eluded or troubled you.

A real estate investment forum is an informal get-together, where people connected to the real estate industry meet to discuss various problems, offer solutions, give and take advice and also build contacts. Thus, you will find real estate brokers, agents, builders, homeowners, buyers and even various lenders attending various forums in a bid to garner business and solve problems that are put forth.

There was a time, when forums actually meant that people got together for discussions, but that is now being challenged by the new medium for meeting, i.e. The Internet. The Internet has allowed people to conduct virtual meetings and also host bulletin boards, where anyone can post their queries, provide solutions or just try to contact someone in this vast industry. Thus, you might find a homeowner trying to find a contractor to solve his leaking problem or a seller trying to find a buyer for the home. You could also find various legal queries being posted on these forums, where people could ask for help in matters related to mortgage payments or foreclosure.

Many forums also have industry experts on their board, who provide answers to any query that might be posted by their visitors. These experts also share their views and offer tips on how to identify the right property to invest in and also the right time to sell. They explain the investment strategy that was successfully adopted by them and also warn about the potential pitfalls that could bog you down. Most online forums require you to become a member first. This means that you will need to provide your name and email address to the forum. The forum might also send you regular newsletters and inform you of any new developments that might take place in the real estate industry.

However, it is better to do some research concerning the credentials of any online or offline forum before you become a member. In case the forum does not have actual experts, but only has some self-proclaimed messiah dishing out worthless or even dangerous advice, then you would pay the price for following that advice. There might also be some members or founders that might have a vested interest to guide you towards investing in a particular project that might not be suitable for you. It is therefore very important that you get reliable advice from ethical experts.

The interesting part of any query that you put before the forum is that you could get a variety of different answers. While it could prove to be a bit confusing, it might also offer you a solution that you would never have thought about on your own. Many of the answers posted are based on actual experience. Thus, you can gain on other people’s experiences or misfortunes.

Many forums also dwell on specific topics concerning investment. Such forums offer specific advice on flipping, leasing, short sales or foreclosure. Thus, forums can help you to lower your risk, when you plan to invest your hard-earned money and also guide you to take the best route that could increase your cash flow and provide you with the highest margin, when you decide to sell the property.

Viral Marketing and Forum Health

Tags: , , ,

If you’ve been around the world of online communities for any amount of time, then it is very likely that you have heard the term viral marketing.

This single element of a community can be the biggest money maker, marketing tool, and growth factor for any type of forum. Viral marketing can surpass any other marketing effort you have ever used or considered using. Best of all, it often won’t cost you anything.

To take advantage of this aspect of your community you need two things: a clear idea of what viral marketing is, and an understanding of how forum health affects your ability to use this tool.

What is Viral Marketing?

Before we can begin to discuss, how your forum’s health affects your ability to take advantage of the viral aspects of community, we must first look at viral marketing itself.

If you aren’t familiar with the concept it can be summed up like this: In an online community surrounding any type of interest group, product, or service, you have members who very likely know others who are interested in the same thing. If you use this member base to promote something, it can be your greatest selling tool.

Imagine that you currently have 1,000 members, and after stating your desire to grow your forums, each of those members referred one new member to your site. Suddenly you have 2,000 members. With your first success you decide to run a contest to promote the idea. This time you have 2000 members to work with, and again each of them again refers one new member. Now you have 4,000 members to work with. If you ran a new contest, with the same results, you would then grow your member base to 8,000.

Obviously this is a very simplistic look, but the concept is quite clear; viral marketing is using your member base as a marketing tool to grow your forums, and ultimately grow your bottom line. As your member base grows you are provided with even more members who will work for you, and this type of marketing can grow exponentially if you put it to work for you!

A Healthy Forum Goes Viral

With an idea of what viral marketing it, you’re likely asking yourself how you can take advantage of such a powerful tool.

Here’s the big secret: All you need is a healthy forum, with an active member base. The viral aspect will often kick in all by itself. You can always run contests, offer discounts for referrals, or come up with other ideas to promote viral marketing within your community, but the most important element is an active, healthy, community.

If you took the time to look at different forums around the web you would find that the most active forums share some common traits.

1. Administrators and moderators are actively involved in the community.

2. Administrators look to the community for input on improving and expanding the site.

3. Threads never go unanswered.

4. Problems are dealt with quickly.

5. Members are encouraged to help others, and to become actively involved.

With those five aspects you end up with members who also share some common traits.

1. First of all they feel valued because their input is important to the site owners/administrators. This leads to a sense of ownership in the site.

2. Next since they are encouraged to participate, they often will which leads to a sense of pride in being involved in your forums.

3. Finally they know that their questions will be answered, and that problems rarely occur, so they have a place to come to share their passions/interest on the topic.

When you have all three of these elements, you end up with a member base who will often work for you. They enjoy your site, and they have a sense of pride and ownership, so why wouldn’t they help you to promote it.

As a forum administrator you should always monitor your forums health, using tools like BoardsMD (http://www.boardsmd.com), and you should stay actively involved. By putting your focus on your forums you are taking your first step in going viral!

Trevas Walker is a freelance writer, with previous experience in community building, who often works with forum-related sites. Currently he is working to help promote BoardsMD – the web’s only forum ranking system.
