The second most important few words in your article are in the first line of the first paragraph. Internet surfers have a notoriously short attention span and rarely actually read anything word for word unless it is information that they believe will serve their needs, solve a problem or make life better in general for them. So…the title…and the first line are the bait and the hook that you use to entice a reader to actually read the article. The first line needs to contain the key words, as well, and it also need to be attention getting. ‘The fish were begging for more of this fish bait after my first cast!’ If you were a fisherman, you would keep reading.

Another thing about writing articles that you plan to submit to article banks is that they need to be short. Very short! They should be a maximum of 400 words and closer to 300 would be better. It’s easy to get carried away and suddenly have an article that is 1000 words are more when you are discussing a subject that you know a lot about and are interested in. If you start writing and forget to stop, break long wordy articles down and make three or four articles out of the one long one.

Use short sentences and short paragraphs. Remember that short attention span that we talked about? Don’t use big words and don’t use run-on sentences. Make you article easy to read.

Go easy on the exclamation points, as well. One exclamation point indicates importance or excitement… a half a dozen are just rude.

Your resource box at the end of the article is the part that is most important to you. You got your domain name now let’s go get a forum.

If you are new to forums, a forum is also called a “message board”, “activeboard”, “discussion board”, or “bulletin board.” It is a place on the Internet where people can hold and post discussions on a particular topic.

Setting up and configuring a forum from scratch is complicated and you need specific hardware and software. So the next best thing is to find a hosting service that has done the work for you.

Here are my issues with these services. They also advertise FREE FORUM but guess what, the forums for free are cluttered with ads and pop ups that you have no control over, you are limited to how much you can customize the forum and you cannot place your own ads in it. Another thing that really bothers me are these companies that advertise ONLY $4.95 A MONTH. Don’t fall for it because I checked practically all of them and the catch is that you have to sign up for TWO years in advance to receive the $4.95 price.

I was willing to spend the $4.95 a month for an ad free forum, but I was not going to sign up for 2 years. Luckily for me I finally found a forum hosting site that you can sign up for on a monthly basis for $4.95 a month and with a 30 day free trial. If you want, you can also sign up for free and they has only one banner ad.

Here are the steps I went through to get a forum:

1) Goto: www.sparklit.com

2) Click on the Activeboard link.

3) Sign up for either the free or paid forum.

4) Fill out the form and following the directions from Sparklit.

5) You can configure your forum to your particular requirements.

You have a domain name and a forum, let’s put them together now.

I am going to assume you have an OfficeLive web site and a Sparklit forum with the following instructions.

1) Log in to your OfficeLive account.

2) Click on the Web Site link to access your web site Page Manager.

3) Click on the Edit link of the page you want to insert the forum.

4) Within the Page Editor tab, click on the Layout menu and select Single Area.

5) Click on the Site Designer tab and click on the Settings menu.

6) Within the Settings dialog box, set the Page Width to 100%.

7) Go back to the Page Editor tab and click on the Module menu.

Select HTML from the Module menu.

9) Copy the following code in the Add and edit HTML window. Make sure you change the “put_your_forum_name_here” to the name of your forum.

In this section you will have to provide the website directory with your website URL and a short description of the author’s biorgraphy…this should be you.

You want your readers to stay engaged, so you’ll need more than just a great title. Now don’t get me wrong, the title is a very import part of your article. But, the content of your article must be just as valuable. Below are the top 10 secrets to successful article writing.

1.   Before you begin thinking of what you want to write, establish who your audience will be and only write for them. Make them feel as if you’re writing just for their circumstances. This gives you a reason to write more articles, tweek them and redirect to another targeted audience. You cannot satisfy everyone in one article, so don’t try.

2.   Keep one or two needs of your target audience in mind as you write. You don’t want to try and address all their needs in one article. If you stay focused, your audience will stay focused, and get the answers they need. This will also keep them comming back for more information, from your articles.

3.   Make sure you are consistent with your word style (slang, proper, online lingo, etc.). This may change between articles, but not in the same article. Jumping from one word style to another will appeal to no one in particular. Remember, you want your audience to understand what you’re writing about, and come away with a great reading experience.
